Collecting every tail in Mermaid Isle is the core progression goal for most players. Tails range from common varieties obtained through simple exploration to extremely rare designs requiring luck, persistence, and significant pearl investments. The first tier of tails in Mermaid Isle consists of three accessible categories. Fish Egg tails are completely free and scattered across the map as glowing blue or orange orbs. Some are hidden inside closed shells that you need to physically lift, while others sit inside caves and crevices. Shop tails are purchased using pearls at the Tail Shop, with prices ranging from approximately 1,000 to over 2,000 pearls. Seasonal shop tails like Tide Swimmer and Coral Majesty are limited to the summer season. VIP tails come exclusively from the Very Important Pearl game pass, which costs 500 Robux and includes unique tails, poses, and a music box.

These three categories require active gameplay rather than simple purchases. Shining Song tails are obtained by finding five musical monuments scattered around the map. Each monument displays a sequence of symbols that you must match before time runs out. Successfully completing the sequence causes flowers to bloom, revealing a Fish Egg that grants a Shining Song tail. One monument is hidden inside a cave and is frequently missed. Bubble Pixie tails are the smallest tails in the game and require you to find and pop large bubbles that spawn near the ocean surface, especially during rain or storm events. You must match the corresponding music note to pop each bubble. Catch and Release tails are sold daily at Hermit's Shop on the main island, with a different tail available each day.

Sandy Wave and Faithful Wish tails represent the hardest collectibles in Mermaid Isle. Sandy Wave tails are obtained through Gold's quest system. After speaking with Gold near Cradle Reef, you receive tasks such as Whack-a-Mole, Hide and Seek, and seahorse collection. Completing these tasks gives a very small chance of earning a Sandy Wave tail. Only three Sandy Wave tails exist in the game, and earning all of them grants a golden star badge. Faithful Wish tails are obtained by donating pearls to the monument at the Mermaid Shrine located in Selky's Plunge. The shrine operates on a pity system, but the pity does not guarantee a Faithful Wish tail. Instead, it guarantees any tail, which could range from a common Mandarin to a rare Faithful Wish with its distinctive rainbow gradient effect.

Efficient tail collection requires a mix of daily routines and resource management. Prioritize free activities like Fish Egg collection and Song Monument puzzles before spending pearls. Always check Hermit's Shop daily so you never miss a Catch and Release tail. During storm events, immediately switch to bubble hunting since spawn rates increase significantly.
